- The Five Pillars of Islam are the foundation of a Muslim’s faith and practices. They are:
- Shahada (Faith): The declaration of faith, stating that “There is no god but ALLAH, and Muhammad (PBUH) is the messenger of ALLAH.”
- Salat (Prayer): Muslims are required to pray five times a day facing towards Mecca.
- Zakat (Charity): Muslims are required to give a portion of their earnings to those in need, which usually amounts to 2.5% of their capital.
- Sawm (Fasting): During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, refraining from eating, drinking, and other physical needs.
- Hajj (Pilgrimage): Every Muslim who is physically and financially able to do so is required to make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetime.
The mosque, or masjid in Arabic, serves as a place of worship where Muslims gather for prayer, particularly the five daily prayers and the special Friday prayer called Jumu’ah.
